Announcing the Death

The news of a death should be broken face-to-face, or on the telephone. More distant relatives and friends may be told by personal email or letter. Only in extreme circumstances should text messages and social networking websites be used as a method of communication, and always avoided if at all possible.

Newspaper Notices

The public announcement of the bereavement and details of the funeral and/or memorial service are usually published in an obituary notice placed by the funeral director in local, national or international newspapers and online.

Public announcements can include a variety of information, such as:

  1. Name of the Deceased

  2. Residence of the Deceased, as well as Town or Country of Birth

  3. Date and Place of Death

  4. Date, Time and Location of Funeral Services. The notice may also specify that the service, or aspects of the service, will be private.

  5. Instructions regarding Floral Tributes, Charitable Donations and Letters of Condolence

  6. Other Special Arrangements or Instructions

  7. Contact Details for the Funeral Director

Paul Williams Independent Funeral Directors Family Notices

Families may wish to make an announcement via our website, which may include photos and links to charities for donations in memory of their loved one. Once published the link can be shared on social media (Facebook, Twitter etc) to ensure all friends and family, wherever they may be in the world, are informed of the funeral arrangements. This service is offered free at no extra cost.
